Abstract

The Thirukkural serves as a moral treatise. Its purpose is to elucidate various life principles from diverse perspectives. The objective of this study is to identify Panbutthogai (qualitative compound words) in the verses of the Thirukkural. This research is based on a qualitative textual analysis. The findings indicate that Panbutthogai are present in the verses of the Thirukkural. Among these, Maiyeetru Panbutthogai (Panbutthogai ending with the suffix ‘mai’) are found in the highest number within the verses of the Thirukkural. This study helps in understanding the usage of Panbutthogai as it appears in the Thirukkural.
