பத்துப்பாட்டு எனப்படும் சங்க இலக்கியத் தொகுப்பில் மதுரைக் கணக்காயர் மகனார் நக்கீரரால் இயற்றப்பட்ட முதற்பாட்டான ‘திருமுருகாற்றுப்படை’ எனும் நூலில் இடம்பெறும் பெயரெச்சம் வினையெச்சம் எனும் இலக்கணக்கூறுகளைக் கண்டறிந்து, பகுப்பாய்வு செய்வதே இவ்வாய்வின் நோக்கமாகும். இஃது ஒரு பண்புசார் ஆய்வாகும். இவ்வெச்ச வடிவங்கள், படைப்பின் கருத்து வெளிப்பாட்டை வலுப்படுத்துவதோடு, இலக்கிய நயத்தின் தாக்கத்தையும் வடிவமைக்கும் முக்கிய கருவிகளாகத் திகழ்கின்றன. அதன் அடிப்படையில், இவ்வாய்வில் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள திருமுருகாற்றுப்படை நூலில் அமைந்துள்ள எச்சங்களின் வடிவங்களில் ஒன்றான பெயரெச்சத்தை ஆராய்ந்து, அதன் அமைப்பையும் பயன்பாட்டையும் கண்டறிவதே இவ்வாய்வின் கண்டுபிடிப்பாகத் திகழ்கிறது. திருமுருகாற்றுப்படையில் கையாளப்பட்டுள்ள பெயரெச்சங்கள் வருணனை வடிவிலும் சிறப்பை எடுத்துரைக்கும் வகையிலும் அமைந்துள்ளன. இவ்வாய்விற்காகத் திருமுருகாற்றுப்படையில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள 317 அடிகளும் முழுமையாக ஆய்வுக்கு உட்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன.

Abstract

This study examines the use of peyareccam (participial adjectives) and vinaiyeccam (verbal participles) in Tirumurukarruppatai the first poem of the Pattuppattu anthology composed by Nakkirar. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study analyses all 317 lines of the text to identify and classify these grammatical forms. Participial structures play a significant role in expressing ideas, enhancing description, and enriching literary aesthetics. The findings reveal that peyareccam forms are extensively used to describe the qualities and characteristics of people, objects, and landscapes, while vinaiyeccam forms contribute to the continuity and flow of actions within the poem. These grammatical elements strengthen both the linguistic and literary features of the work. The study highlights the importance of participial forms in conveying meaning and artistic expression in Sangam literature.
