இவ்வாய்வு, சங்கம் மருவிய காலப் பதினெண் கீழ்க்கணக்கு நூல்களில் ஒன்றான பழமொழி நானூறு நூலில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள உவம உருபுகளின் பயன்பாட்டையும் அவற்றின் இலக்கண, இலக்கியச் சிறப்புகளையும் ஆராய்வதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது. சமண முனிவரான முன்றுறை அரையனாரால் இயற்றப்பட்ட இந்நூல் 401 பாடல்களைக் கொண்ட நீதிநூலாகும். மக்களின் வாழ்வியல் பட்டறிவு, அறநெறி, ஒழுக்கம், சமூகச் சிந்தனை போன்றவற்றைப் பழமொழிகளின் வழி எடுத்துரைக்கும் இந்நூலில் உவமைகள் கருத்துகளைத் தெளிவாகவும் அழகாகவும் வெளிப்படுத்துவதில் முக்கியப் பங்காற்றுகின்றன. இவ்வாய்விற்காக பழமொழி நானூற்றின் அனைத்து 401 பாடல்களும் ஆராயப்பட்டன. தொல்காப்பியர் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ள 36 உவம உருபுகளின் அடிப்படையில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட ஆய்வில் ‘போல’, ‘போல்’, ‘பொற்ப’, ‘அன்ன’, ‘புரைய’ ஆகிய ஐந்து உவம உருபுகள் கண்டறியப்பட்டன. அவற்றுள் ‘போல’, ‘அன்ன’, ‘போல்’ ஆகிய உருபுகள் ஒப்பீட்டளவில் அதிகமாகப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளமை தெரியவந்துள்ளது. இவ்வுருபுகள் ஒப்புமையை வெளிப்படுத்துவதோடு, கருத்துத் தெளிவு, காட்சித்தன்மை, மொழியழகு, அறக்கருத்தின் வலிமை ஆகியவற்றையும் மேம்படுத்துகின்றன. இதன் மூலம் பழமொழி நானூற்றில் உவம உருபுகளின் தனிச்சிறப்பும் இலக்கியப் பங்களிப்பும் வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன.

Abstract
This study examines the use of Uvama Urubu (simile markers) in Pazhamozhi Naanuru, one of the works of the Pathinenkilkanakku corpus of the post-Sangam period, with particular emphasis on their grammatical and literary significance. Pazhamozhi Naanuru, composed by the Jain poet Munrurai Arayanar, is a didactic work consisting of 401 verses. The text conveys moral values, social thought, ethical principles, and practical wisdom through traditional proverbs, while similes contribute significantly to the clarity and beauty of its expressions. For this study, all 401 verses were examined based on the 36 simile markers identified by Tolkappiyar. The analysis identified five simile markers, namely ‘Pola’, ‘Pol’, ‘Porpa’, ‘Anna’, and ‘Puraya’. Among these, ‘Pola’, ‘Anna’, and ‘Pol’ were found to occur more frequently. The findings indicate that these simile markers not only express comparison but also enhance clarity, imagery, literary beauty, and the effectiveness of moral ideas. Thus, the study highlights the distinctive usage and literary contribution of simile markers in Pazhamozhi Naanuru.
