ஆய்வுச்சாரம்

சங்க கால இலக்கியங்களில் மணிமேகலை எனும் காப்பியம் மனிதம் காக்கும் புத்த மதத்தை மையமாகக் கொண்டு, பெண் கதாபாத்திரத்தின் பெயரைத் தாங்கி நிற்கும், தலை சிறந்த காப்பியமாக இன்றளவும் பேசப்பட்டுக் கவனம் பெற்று வருகின்றது. இந்நூல் மொத்தமாக முப்பது காதைகளைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இந்நூலைத் தொகுத்தவர் புலவர் மதுரைக்கூலவணிகர் சீத்தலைச் சாத்தனார் ஆவார். பண்டைய தமிழர்களிடம் இருந்து இன்றுவரை காலத்தால் அழியாதக் காப்பியமாக மட்டும் திகழாமல் பாத்திரம் பெற்ற காதை, பசிப்பிணியின் கொடுமைகள், அப்பிணியைப் போக்கும் செயல், அறச்செயலில் போதிக்கப்படும் மனிதநேயம், அன்பு என இன்னும் பல அறக்கருத்துகளை முன்னிறுத்தி, அவநம்பிக்கையைக் கலைந்து, குற்றமற்ற சமூகத்தை வடிவமைத்து இன்றைய வாழ்க்கை முறையோடு நெருங்கிய தொடர்பு படுத்தும் வகையில் காதைகள் இதில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளன. இந்த ஆய்வின் நோக்கமானது மணிமேகலைக் காதைகளில் உயிரளபெடைகளைக் கண்டறிவதும் பகுத்தாய்தலும் ஆகும். இஃது ஓர் பண்புசார் ஆய்வாக அமைகின்றது. மணிமேகலைக் காதையில் அதிகமான உயிரளபெடைகளின் பயன்பாடு காணப்படுகின்றன. இவ்வாய்விற்கு மணிமேகலையில் 1 முதல் 5 வரை உள்ள காதைகளில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள உயிரளபெடைகள் கண்டறியப்பட்டு ஆய்வுக்கு உட்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன.

Abstract

Among the Sangam literary works, Manimekalai is regarded as a distinguished epic that continues to receive recognition and attention to this day. Centered on the Buddhist philosophy of compassion and humanity, the epic bears the name of its female protagonist. This literary work consists of a total of thirty cantos and was composed by the poet Madurai Koolavanigar Seethalai Saathanar. From the time of the ancient Tamils until the present day, Manimekalai has remained an imperishable epic, portraying themes such as the suffering caused by hunger, the act of relieving such suffering, humanitarian values emphasized through virtuous deeds, and the idea that humanity is rooted in love. Furthermore, the epic highlights various moral principles that aim to eradicate ignorance, shape a faultless society, and establish close relevance to contemporary ways of life. The objective of this study is to identify and analyse the use of Uyiralabedai (vowel prosodic elongation) found in the cantos of Manimekalai. This study adopts a qualitative research approach. A significant use of Uyiralabedai can be observed throughout the epic and the first five cantos of Manimekalai have been identified and analysed.
