Valimikum principles in Uyarthinai nouns – A study on Naaladiyar

Abstract

இந்த ஆய்வு நாலடியாரில் உயர்திணைப் பெயர்ச்சொற்களின் புணர்ச்சி முறைகளை ஆராய்கிறது. உயர்திணைப் பெயர்ச்சொற்கள் வேற்றுமை விகுதிகளுடன் பாடல்களில் புணர்ந்து வரும்போது, இரண்டு வேறுபட்ட பொருள்களைத் தந்து, பொருள் விளக்கத்தில் குழப்பத்தை ஏற்படுத்துகின்றன. புலவர்கள் இலக்கணத்தில் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்ட புணர்ச்சி விதிகளைப் பின்பற்றி, குறிப்பிட்ட சிக்கல்களை சரியான பொருள் விளக்கத்துடன் விளக்குகின்றனர். யாப்பின் அமைப்பையும் பாடலின் பொருளையும் முறையாக வைத்திருக்க, புலவர்கள் தங்கள் முன்னோர்களால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டு பின்பற்றப்பட்ட புணர்ச்சி விதிகளைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கின்றனர். உயர்திணைப் பெயர்கள் இயல்பு புணர்ச்சி விதியின் கீழ் கருதப்படுகின்றன, ஆனால் விதிவிலக்காக, பழைய இலக்கியங்களில், ஒரு சொல்லுக்கு குறிப்பிட்ட பொருளை உருவாக்க உயர்திணைப் பெயர்ப் புணர்ச்சிகளில் வலிமிகும் விதி காணப்படுகிறது. புலவர்கள் சொற்களின் பொருளை நிர்ணயிக்க நாலடியாரில் இந்த விதியைக் கையாண்டுள்ளனர் என்பது தெரிய வருகிறது. எனவே, இந்த நூலக ஆய்வு நாலடியாரின் 400 பாடல்களை உள்ளடக்கியது. நாலடியாரின் 12 பாடல்களில் 11 பாடல்களில் உயர்திணைப் பெயர்ப் புணர்ச்சிகளில் வலிமிகும் விதி இருப்பதை இந்த ஆய்வு கண்டறிந்துள்ளது. இந்தப் புணர்ச்சி விதிகளின் அடிப்படையில் தமிழ் இலக்கியத்தில் ஆய்வு செய்யப்போகும் பிற ஆய்வாளர்களுக்கு இந்த ஆய்வு ஒரு வழிகாட்டியாகவும் செயல்படுகிறது.

This study explores the combination of Uyarthinai Nouns in Naaladiyar. The Uyarthinai Nouns are affixed with the case elliptical clauses in poems, bringing out two different meanings and creating confusion in the definition. Poets circumvent this issue by accepting the combination theories in grammar and applying them to explain the particular issues with the correct definition they tend to deliver. Poets keep to the theories of combinations which are accepted and followed by their ancestors to keep the structure of prosody and definition of the poem in order. Uyarthinai Nouns are considered to be under the Iyalpu Combination theory, but, with an exception, in ancient literature, valimikum theory has been found among the rational noun combinations to create a certain definition for a word. It is known that poets have handled this theory in Naaladiyar to determine the definition of the words. Hence, this library research includes 400 poems by Naaladiyar. This study found the presence of valimikum theory in the rational noun combinations in 11 out of 12 poetries of Naaladiyar. This study also serves as a demonstration to other research scholars who are going to conduct research on Tamil literature based on these combination theories.
