தமிழ் இலக்கிய மரபில் சிறப்புமிக்க படைப்புக்களில் ஒன்றாக விளங்குவது கம்பராமாயணம் ஆகும். ஊலக இலக்கியங்களில் மனிதனின் நிறை குறை குணங்களையும் சித்தரித்துக் காட்டும் தன்மையாய் இது என்றும் புதுமை இழக்காத காவியமாக உள்ளது. கம்பர் தனது கவிநயம், மொழியின் இனிமை, உருவங்களின் ஆழம் ஆகியவற்றின் மூலம் இதனை ஒரு கலைக்கோவையாக உருவாக்கியுள்ளார். இந்தக் காவியத்தில் வரும் ஒவ்வொரு பாத்திரமும் தனித்துவமான குணநலங்களைக் கொண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இராமனின் தர்மநிலை, சீதையின் தூய்மை, முனிவர்களின் தவவலிமை போன்ற வித்தியாசமான குணப்பண்புகள் மனித வாழ்க்கையின் பல்வேறு பரிமாணங்களை பிரதிபலிக்கின்றன. ஒரே காவியத்துக்குள் உயர்ந்த தர்மமும் கீழ்த்தரமான ஆசைகளும் ஒன்றோடு ஒன்று நிழலாக நிற்பதையும் அவற்றின் விளைவுகளை உணர்த்துவதையும் கம்பராமாயணம் சிறப்பாகச் செய்கிறது. இந்த காவியத்தில் உள்ள மிதிலைக் காட்சிப் படலம் எனும் படலத்திலுள்ள கதாபாத்திரங்களின் குணப்பண்புகளை ஆராய்வதே இவ்வாய்வின் நோக்கமாகும்.

Abstract
Kambaramayanam is one of the most important works in the Tamil literary tradition. It is an epic that never loses its originality in world literature, depicting the perfections and shortcomings of man. Kambar has created it as an artistic masterpiece through his poetic style, sweetness of language, and the beauty of images. Each character in this epic is created with unique qualities. Different qualities such as the morality of Rama, the purity of Sita, and the penance of the sages reflect various dimensions of human life. Kambaramayanam excels in showing that high morality and low desires stand as shadows of each other within a single epic and conveys their consequences. The purpose of this study is to examine the qualities of the characters in the film called Mithila Kashidha Patalam in this epic.
